Tell Me Your Story
One of the conclusions I have reached from my own experience is that diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives can sometimes produce consequences that are very different from their stated intentions.
I believe that happened to me.
I believe race played a role in how I was treated.
I believe identity was, at times, valued more highly than merit, performance, competence, and fairness.
And I believe I paid a significant price for it.
But this page is not about my story.
It is about yours.
Because the more people I speak with, the more I hear similar experiences.
Not identical experiences.
Not identical conclusions.
But remarkably similar themes.
Employees who believe they were passed over despite strong performance.
Managers who believe standards were applied differently depending on who was involved.
Workers who felt they could not raise concerns without risking their careers.
People who believe merit became secondary to identity.
People who felt targeted, silenced, ignored, or marginalized because of who they were.
And perhaps most importantly:
People who never felt safe enough to tell their story publicly.
If that describes you, I want to hear from you.
Who Should Contact Me?
I am interested in hearing from:
- Current and former employees of Invited Clubs.
- Current and former employees in the hospitality industry.
- Employees from any industry who believe DEI-related policies, practices, or decisions negatively affected them.
- Managers who felt pressured to make decisions based on factors other than merit or performance.
- Individuals who believe they experienced discrimination, retaliation, or disparate treatment tied to race, gender, or identity.
- Anyone who believes they have a story that deserves to be heard.
You do not need to agree with my conclusions.
You do not need to share my politics.
You do not need to have experienced exactly what I experienced.
You simply need a story that you believe is worth telling.
Confidentiality Matters
Many people remain silent because they have too much to lose.
I understand that.
If you contact me:
- Your name will not be published without your permission.
- Your identity will be protected to the fullest extent possible.
- Your information will not be shared without your consent.
- Anonymous submissions are welcome.
Some people may simply want someone to listen.
Some may want to document their experience.
Some may want their story preserved without ever being made public.
That is entirely your choice.
Why This Matters
Every time I tell my story, someone responds with one of their own.
And every time I ask what happened to the person involved, the answer is usually the same:
"What could they do?"
That answer bothers me.
Because if nobody speaks, nobody knows.
If nobody documents what happened, nothing changes.
And if every story disappears, the people who lived those experiences are left believing they were alone.
I do not believe they are alone.
I believe there are far more stories out there than most people realize.
And I believe many of those people have never had a safe place to tell them.
If that is you, I am listening.

Tell me your story.
As much or as little as you are comfortable sharing.
Whether it stays private, becomes part of a larger conversation, or simply helps another person realize they are not alone, your experience matters.
And if nobody has told you this before:
You deserve to be heard.
